Retired military dogs find new purpose as they help police combat meth
Lawrence Police Department Officer Matthew Hickey watches as his dog Axel performs a search drill at a school in Indianapolis. Thanks to a grant from Zephrex-D, Axel, a 5-year-old German shepherd that spent three years in Afghanistan as a search and narcotics dog, will spend the rest of his working career in Indianapolis, where he’s been assigned to the Lawrence Township School District police force.
